University of Calabria and DIMES Dept. at a glance
The ASONAM 2024 Conference will be hosted by the University of Calabria (Unical), Rende (CS), Italy. Established in 1968, Unical is the first residential university in Italy with a departmental structure. Unical is located in a hilly area not far from the urban centers of Rende and Cosenza, and hosts Departments (14), Halls, Laboratories, Offices, Libraries, Canteens, Theaters, Museums, and Sport centers. According to the ranking drawn up by Censis in 2022, Unical is in 3rd place among the large Italian state universities and 1st in Italy for services provided to students.
The Unical management and organization of the conference will be led by the Department of Computer Engineering, Modelling, Electronics and Systems Engineering (DIMES). With more than 100 faculty and 20 technical-administrative staff members, DIMES promotes and coordinates teaching and research in Computer Engineering, as well as in Electronics, Electromagnetic Fields, Telecommunications, Automation, Modeling (Structural Mechanics, Food-Chemical Processes), Optimization and Operations Research. DIMES has been granted by The Ministry of Instruction, University and Research among the Departments of Excellence 2018-2022, a selection of the best 180 Departments (out of more than 800) in Italian Public Universities - Departments with a much distinguished research profile. DIMES ranked third in the national area of Industrial Engineering and Information and in second place among the departments of the southern universities considering all the 14 scientific areas.

The Paola Railway station is currently managed by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI). Train services are operated by or on behalf of Trenitalia. Each of these companies is a subsidiary of Ferrovie dello Stato (FS), Italy’s state-owned rail company.
